How to pose for a photoshoot: tips for beginners (and not only)
Many people think: “I’m not photogenic” or “I don’t know how to pose.” In reality, anyone can pose. The main thing is to relax and trust your photographer.
1. Relax
Don’t tense up or try too hard to “stand correctly.” Beautiful shots come when you’re natural and move freely.
2. Posture and shoulders
A straight back with slightly lowered shoulders makes your posture look light and confident. Avoid unnecessary stiffness.
3. Hands
A common question – “what do I do with my hands?” A few simple options:
- hold an accessory (a book, a cup, a bouquet),
- put one hand in your pocket,
- gently touch your hair or chin.
4. Eyes
Don’t just look into the camera. Shift your gaze to the side, downward, or at your partner (if it’s a couple or family shoot). This makes photos feel alive.
5. Movement
A light walk, a step forward, laughter, a hand gesture – all of this creates natural shots. Don’t stand “stiffly.”
I always guide you: I’ll suggest how to stand, what to do with your hands, how to turn your head, and even show pose examples right during the shoot. So don’t worry – the main thing is to show up and be yourself.
