How to choose a location for a photoshoot
The location plays a huge role in photography. It sets the mood, creates the atmosphere, and helps reveal the person in the frame. But how do you know where it’s best to shoot?
1. Purpose of the shoot
First, think about why you need the photos.
- For work – business interiors, office spaces, or minimalist studios.
- For family or a love story – a cozy studio, park, forest, beach.
- For creative portraits – unusual spaces, rooftops, industrial areas.
2. Season and weather
- In summer, parks, beaches, and old towns work great.
- In winter, studios with beautiful light and interiors are usually chosen.
- Autumn offers bright, colorful scenery.
3. Atmosphere
The location should match your mood and character: romance, coziness, dynamics, minimalism.
4. Convenience
It’s important that the place is comfortable: a chance to change clothes, child-friendly access, parking nearby.
5. Light
The most important thing in photography is light. Studios provide control and stability, while outdoor settings bring naturalness and vibrancy.
The good news is that you don’t have to decide everything yourself. I always help choose the best location for the shoot, based on your goals, style, and mood.
